Gaming Sits at the Epicenter of the New Entertainment Industry
Today I attended a really interesting panel, part of the London Games Festival (congrats Michael French on a fantastic few weeks), around the increasing interaction between games with the film industry. The panel was hosted by Simon Pulman, who was joined by Story Kitchen’s co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson & Mike Goldberg.

While the panel was mostly about gaming and film, the reality is that the whole entertainment industry is blending together more and more. Simplified (and correct me if I’m wrong), the entertainment industry’s key sub-industries are film (movies & series), music, gaming, literature and competition (sports).
Gaming interacts with film, with recent examples being Fallout, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Arcane and many others. Its interaction with music speaks for itself; what game doesn’t include music? Books and comics are translated into games, and vice versa, while beyond sports games, online games also have plenty of competitive and sports-like elements (Counter-Strike is purely driven by competition for example).
Nowadays, gaming isn’t just one of the pillars of the industry anymore. It’s driving a new era of creativity and becoming the connective tissue (as Harry Field would say). And gaming doesn’t just serve as the leader in creative storytelling, but a cultutural bridge between people and industries, and it’s reshaping the way the entire entertainment industry works.
And I’m all-in on this crazy ride! #LFG
